LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out)

it is our safety procedure used to ensure that electrical panels and dangerous equipment is properly shut off “after energization and commissioning” and not able to be started up again prior to the completion of final testing / maintenance or any repair work. It requires that hazardous energy sources be “isolated and rendered inoperative” before work is started on the equipment in question.

The principle behind this method is to prevent a machine that has been prepared for service or maintenance from being put back into operation during the maintenance work. This backup process consists of two steps:

Lock Out:
The Lock-Out materials are used to lock switches, valves, levers, etc. in the off position. This barrier is secured with one or more locks. The locks can also be locked by different people, so that unlocking by an employee is not possible.

Tag Out:
The Tag-Out materials are used for visual communication. Stickers and tags are used to identify barriers and locks during maintenance and repair work. They transport important information, such as the duration of the work, the subject of the work or those involved, to third parties and thus ensure greater visibility and security.

According to the European standard EN 50110-1, the safety procedure before working on electric equipment comprises the following five steps:

1. disconnect completely;
2. secure against re-connection;
3. verify that the installation is dead;
4. carry out earthing and short-circuiting; and
5. provide protection against adjacent live parts.
